Ravi Sattiraju is a founding partner of Sattiraju & Tharney, LLP. Ravi has over 25 years of experience litigating employment matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Ravi has litigated a broad spectrum of employment laws, including, but not limited to, Title VII, NJ Law Against Discrimination, Conscientious Employee Protection Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, New Jersey Wage and Hour Law, and New Jersey Wage Payment Law. He has represented Fortune 500 companies, public entities, privately held companies, individual defendants, as well as individuals suing their employers. Since 2009, Ravi has primarily focused on representing workers in single-plaintiff and class action litigation.

Prior to starting his own firm, Ravi worked at large international and New Jersey-based law firms. He also worked as the primary in-house employment attorney for L’Oréal USA’s entire domestic workforce of approximately 8,000 employees. In this capacity, and in private practice, he counseled all levels of management and human resources professionals on employment law issues.

Ravi currently serves on the Board of Governors of the New Jersey Association for Justice, which is dedicated to working to preserve and strengthen the laws for safer products and workplaces, a cleaner environment and quality health care, and also serves as Co-Chair of the Mass Tort and Class Action Committee.

Ravi also serves on the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey State Bar Association, which is the largest organization of attorneys, judges and legal professionals in New Jersey. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section and has been Chair of the Wage & Hour Law Committee.

Ravi has been recognized by Super Lawyers in the field of Employment Litigation as a Rising Star from 2008-2013 and as a Super Lawyer from 2015-2024.* He also received the Asian Pacific American Lawyer Association of New Jersey’s Trailblazer Award. Ravi served as President and on the Board of Directors of the South Asian Bar Association’s New Jersey chapter.

Case Results

Ravi was lead counsel in a hostile work environment matter in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Essex County, which resulted in a $22.6 million verdict for his client, including a $15 million punitive damage award. This was the largest upheld single-plaintiff and punitive damage award in the history of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

Ravi received his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law at Newark.
